The B450 Tomahawk sports the same Realtek ALC892 audio codec and the same Realtek 8111H Gigabit LAN controller as the B350 model, and on paper, look very similar. If I need to make a change, please let me know as this is my first post here. The MSI B450M Tomahawk is a direct successor to the B350 Tomahawk we previously reviewed, but with a few visual tweaks and the introduction of RGB LED lighting to the mix to give it a more ‘popular’ reach to those looking to customize their system to fit their components and mood. The main question here is, is this possibly a faulty motherboard, or is it just CPU incompatibility again? In the meantime, I've been running single channel 16Gb in slots A1 and A2. CPU-z will show the RAM running in dual channel, but of course, I basically get half the ram. Filling all the RAM slots, I get 28Gb available/ 13.9 usable. The rest of RAM is labled as Hardware Reserved.

Windows shows 16Gb available/5.9Gb usable. (The 2Gb is the default allocated for the 2400g.) Windows shows 16Gb available/13.9 usable. I've tried this with 3 different sets of RAM. The BIOS detects ram in each slot, however, whatever I put into slots B1 and B2, show up as "Hardware reserved" in windows if RAM is also in an A slot. Next up, I cannot run my RAM in dual channel correctly. I'm 99% sure this is CPU incompatibility. Even if I make no changes but select the "Save and exit" option in the BIOS, this still happens. If I enter the BIOS and save any changes, the computer will refuse to POST. There are a couple questions I have to ask to try and narrow down issues with my motherboard vs issues with compatibility. To my surprise, I am able to use the system. B550 is advertised to work on 3rd gen ryzen not including the APU's however. I got the B550 without looking at compatible CPU's like an idiot. I sold my b350m board along with the RAM I had with it on r/hardwareswap.

I was looking to upgrade my system to 4th gen ryzen once it came out. Hey everyone, this is my first post on this reddit so if I need to fix something, let me know.
